Kimberly-Clark to produce baby care products at U.K. facility.

Meanwhile...after months of speculation by the industry, Kimberly-Clark, Dallas, TX, revealed in a meeting to securities analysts and portfolio managers in late February that the company's facility at Barton-upon-Humber, U.K., will begin production of disposable baby diapers and training pants. The 100 [pounds] million plant is expected to start up within the next 12 months to supply certain European markets.

With the announcement, the company has confirmed what many in the industry had predicted - Kimberly-Clark will use the site to make a strong entrance into the $4 billion European disposable diaper market and become the first supplier of training pants in the region. The company gave no details about where or when the infant care products will be launched.

In a related news item, Kimberly-Clark revealed that shipments of "Huggies Pull-Ups" training pants have started to retailers throughout Canada.
