Killie justify increase for Hoops visits.

Byline: GAVIN BERRY

KILMARNOCK have defended their decision to charge Celtic fans more than supporters of other Premiership clubs.

The new pricing structure means briefs will cost the same whenever they are bought. Killie fans had complained as they had to pay more for tickets bought on matchday at Rugby Park.

Club chiefs responded by setting the price at PS20 but also warned that it won't apply for games against the Hoops.

A spokeswoman said: "It has always been the case that ticket prices were increased for games against the Old Firm.

"There are many reasons for it and one that has to be taken into account is that the cost of policing and stewarding goes up for these games."

Rangers punters were often charged more when they were in the top flight and a ticket pricing row between the Old Firm and their rivals broke out in 2008.

That came after the Glasgow giants added a five per cent fee for allocating away tickets to their fans. That led to some clubs charging more for the return fixture - or selling directly to Old Firm fans - to recoup the cash.

At the time ex-Killie chairman Michael Johnston accused the big two of stirring up "a hornet's nest". Above, Record Sport looks at the ticket policy of top-flight sides, plus Rangers and Hibs, which show four other Premiership clubs only raise prices for Celtic.
