Killie in crock shock.

KILMARNOCK boss Jim Jefferies will step up his search for a new striker after hearing the news that Allan Russell will be sidelined for eight weeks.

The former Airdrie hitman, who only moved to Rugby Park in the summer, ruptured medial knee ligaments during their pre-season training camp in Italy.

Jefferies, who has added Russell and midfielder Gavin Skelton to his squad, has been linked with Linfield striker Peter Thompson and ex-Kaiserlautern and Bordeaux hitman Joel Thomas has been on trial.

The Killie boss admits it is imperative he adds some firepower to his squad following Russell's untimely injury.

He said: "It is important that we bring in a new striker after Allan's injury. We have made a few enquiries and are waiting to hear back and see what develops.

"Allan has had a scan and does not need an operation but his knee must have opened up as he fell."
