Killer freed by Europe.

CONVICTED murderer Satpal Ram yesterday became the first prisoner freed on the back of a ruling from the European Court of Human Rights.

Ram, 36, was released from prison on licence after serving 15 years for the fatal stabbing of Clarke Pearce in a Bengali restaurant in Birmingham in 1986.

Ram's sentence was reviewed after judges in Strasbourg ruled that former Home Secretary Jack Straw breached the human rights of convicted murderer Dennis Stafford, by keeping Stafford in jail longer than recommended by the Parole Board.
