Kiefer calls time on 24; TELEVISION.

KIEFER Sutherland has confirmed speculation that cult US show 24 is to end.

After nine years, his character Jack Bauer is taking a break from the action-packed spy adventures on telly.

But fans have not seen the last of anti-terrorism Agent Bauer - as Sutherland revealed a film version of 24 is now in production.

The last episode of the TV show - nominated for 68 Emmy awards in eight series - airs on Fox on May 24.

Kiefer, 43, admitted he was sad to see it go. He said: "This has been the role of a lifetime.

It's the loyal worldwide fan base that made it possible for me to play Jack Bauer, For that, I'm eternally grateful.

"I always wanted 24 to finish on a high note, so the decision to make the eighth season our last was one we all agreed upon."
