Kids grab a bag to eat!

Byline: By Moira Sharkey South Wales Echo

Children are opting for a new take-away school dinner this term.

A new grab bag packed with filled rolls or sandwiches, salad bowls, low-fat crisps and juice drink or water is being offered to pupils across primary schools in Cardiff.

The packed lunch option was introduced onto the menu after calls from pupils for an alternative to a hot meal. The grab bag was piloted successfully in schools before the summer holidays.

Operation Manager of Cardiff Catering, Sue Eakers, said: 'We are very excited to be launching the new Grab Bags throughout the city's primary schools this term.

'We have been overwhelmed with the response from the children. They really do love the Grab Bags. We have listened to them to find out what they want to eat and taken on board the comments of parents on what they would like to see in the lunches.'
