Kids go for gold at Olympic day.

YOUNGSTERS enjoyed their very own Olympic moment when they took part in a day of sport at Birmingham's Alexander Stadium.

Pupils from schools in Nechells staged an opening ceremony showcasing anthems written and performed by them before taking part in more than 60 events.

There was even a Olympicstyle torch relay before the event at the stadium, which will be used by the USA's track and field squad before next month's Games.

Children took part from Bloomsbury Nursery and Children's Centre and Cromwell, Heartlands Academy, Nechells, St Clement's, St Joseph's and St Vincent's Schools.

It was organised by the Nechells Education Action Zone community partnership.
