Key role of regional banks is discussed.
Union of Arab Banks chairman and Al Baraka Banking Group president and chief executive Adnan Ahmed Yousif met Syrian Prime Minister Naji Al Otri, Also present were Central Bank of Syria governor Adib Mayalah, Central Bank of Turkey governor Dermoz Yilmaz and Turkish Banking Association secretary-general Akram Liaskin.
Mr Al Ottri praised the role of the Union of Arab Banks in uniting the Arab banks, mobilisation of their resources to serve Arab development and the active role of the union in enhancing the role of Arab banks through the conferences, seminars and training workshops which it organises.
Mr Yousif hailed the success of the Conference on the Experience of Syrian-Turkish Banks, which, he said, would contribute to enhancing co-operation between Syrian and Turkish banks.
Mr Yousif also had the honour met Syrian Deputy Prime Minister Dr Abdullah Al Dardari and Minister of Finance Mohamed Al Hussein.
He also held talks with Mr Mayalah which focused on the leading role of the Al Baraka Banking Group and the development plans and programmes which Al Baraka Bank Syria intends to launch when it starts its operations in Syria.
Mr Yousif had earlier participated in the conference, where he said in his speech that Arab banks still had a long way to go in performing their full role in supporting Arab development programmes, highlighting the real absence of institutions and products necessary to have a complete Arab financial structure.
He stressed the need for implementing development programmes and improving the efficiency of the use of funds.
Mr Yousif, in his capacity as chairman of Al Baraka Bank Syria, chaired the first meeting of the board of the bank which will start its operations in the first quarter of this year.
