Key role of cooperation among navies stressed.

Dubai A safe and conducive maritime environment is important to ensure lasting tranquility, prosperity and peace in the region, a senior Pakistani Navy officer has said.

"Pakistan's Navy has always endeavoured in promoting peace, cooperation and harmony through its active role in international security," said Captain Naveed Ahmad Rizvi, Commanding Officer of the Pakistan naval ship aePNS Babur'. He was speaking at a ceremony held on Monday aboard the ship which called on Port Rashid in Dubai on a goodwill visit to the UAE. Diplomats and prominent Pakistani community members attended the reception.

The ship, Captain Naveed said, is currently participating in the Coalition Maritime Campaign to improve regional security by taking active measures against international terrorism and availing itself of opportunities to interact with multinational maritime forces to benefit from their experiences. "We, along with other multinational maritime forces, are focused to create a stable and secure region," he added.

He said that the UAE and Pakistan enjoy close relations based on common faith, culture and geographic proximity. "UAE and Pakistan have close military cooperation, especially in the maritime environment," he noted.

Captain Naveed said that the ship would be patrolling the Arabian seas as part of the Coalition Maritime Campaign for the next month. aePNS Babur' has been named after Zaheeruddin Mohammad Babur, founder of the Mughal Dynasty, which ruled the sub-continent for nearly three centuries.
