KT DESIGN SERVICES have some 20 years experience as mechanical and electrical engineers to the Food Industry and particularly to the Plant Bakery Industry.

Originally known as Kerry Handling, K. T. DESIGN SERVICES is a restructured company with a new board of Directors but still engaged in the same business.

The company has unrivalled knowledge of Bulk Flour Handling systems which it has always designed to suit the customers exact requirements especially for various types of flour which have very different handling characteristics. A specialised knowledge of weighing and minor ingredient handling has kept the company in the forefront.

K. T. has designed and installed bulk flour systems ranging in size from 25 to 200 tonne silo capacity. The company has always believed that flour silos should be insulated and clad to mitigate the effects of temperature changes both in the flour, and external variations.

From the beginning, conveyors have always been a very important part of the company's activities. These conveyors carry products as diverse as bread, rolls, cakes, stollen, pizzas, fish, baking tins and sheets, frozen meal packs and cartons. Belts used are cloth, plastic, slatband and stainless steel rod either with or without mesh covering.

For many years the company have used the 'Ashworth' or similar type belt as the backbone to its conveyor business.

In 1974, the company designed and installed its first Spiral Conveyor using this belt for ambient cake cooling. This was quickly followed by orders for cooling buns and rolls, so that today more baked dough products are cooled on K.T. Spirals than any other.

Spiral cooling led to spiral freezing and proving.

Some 3 years ago the company developed a unique Spiral system based on the stainless steel rod belt and called it 'Kerrytrak'.

This multi-drive spiral has many plus features including no transfer points, reduced headroom for a given number of tiers of similar spacing. It can also carry dough pieces on trays which means it can be used for proving.

Major users include: Allied Bakeries, Birdseye Walls, British Bakeries, Fletchers Bakeries, Geest Industries, J. Lyons & Co, McDonalds, Memory Lane, Northern Foods, Ross Young, United Biscuits, Wimpy.
