Kerala DIG suspended for links with businessman.
One of the key allegations against Sreejith was that he tried to implicate a deputy superintendent of police, who had filed a complaint against Rauf, in a false case. Other allegations relate to a plan to illegally take over the property of a Malayali in Karnataka, and making adverse comments against senior officers.
A local television channel had aired telephone conversations between Sreejith and Rauf which touched on their dealings, including discussions of the land deal. Following the suspension, the government may even explore the possibility of filing a case against the police officer over the land deal he is allegedly involved in.
The case took another turn when K.M. Shajahan, a former additional private secretary of Kerala Opposition leader V.S. Achuthanandan, alleged on Tuesday that he had fallen out with the former chief minister because of the latter's association with Sreejith.
Sreejith's suspension comes a day after the Supreme Court upheld the life imprisonment handed to Shaji, a former deputy superintendent of Kerala Police, for the murder of one of his close associates, Praveen in 2005. Praveen was an employee in the bus service operated by Shaji. He was murdered because Shaji suspected him to have an illicit relationship with his wife. After murdering Praveen, Shaji cut his body into several pieces and disposed it at Kumarakom and Thanneermukkam Bund. The murder came to light when the limbs of the decapitated body surfaced.
