William D. Smith, president and chief operating officer of Kemper Insurance Cos., said he will retire immediately.Kemper Chairman and CEO David B. Mathis will postpone his own retirement and continue as chairman and CEO for the foreseeable future. The chief operating officer position will remain vacant for now.
Axa Canada has appointed Jean-Francois Blais as president and chief operating officer. In addition to his new duties, Blais will continue to act as executive vice president of property/casualty operations forAxa in Quebec until a successor is appointed.
Blais joined Axa is 1988 and has held the positions of manager of actuarial services for home and automobile, and vice president of operations and underwriting for personal lines.
