Kazakhstan praises King of Spain's immense contribution to bilateral ties.

Kazakhstani Deputy Foreign Minister Yerzhan Ashikbayev described Spanish King Juan Carlos's decision to abdicate as sad news, but one that he respected from the monarch who made immense contributions to bilateral relations.

"His personal contribution, along with (Kazakhstani) President (Nursultan) Nazarbayev, to the development of relations between Kazakhstan and Spain is huge, visionary," Ashikbayev told Efe in the Paraguayan capital while taking part in the Organization of American States, or OAS, General Assembly, the Fox News said.

He said both leaders had "an excellent personal relationship" that helped forge "strategic" cooperation between the two countries.

"It is sad news, but it is up to His Majesty," Ashikbayev said, referring to the king's announcement Monday of his decision to abdicate in favor of his son, Crown Prince Felipe.

Ashikbayev described Juan Carlos as "a person who has been at our side in times of difficulty and has contributed much to the development of Kazakhstan."

Kazakhstan and Spain are both Permanent Observers at the OAS.
