Katara Art Centre hosts Art Dubai's dXb store expo.

RAMY SALAMA

DOHA KATARA Art Centre (KAC), in an ongoing drive to showcase designs from around the region, is currently hosting a curated selection of designs from the dXb store, a not-forprofit initiative launched in 2011 by Art Dubai, which is now a leading platform to promote UAE-based artists and designers.

The second edition of the design exhibition features the dXb store's carefully curated selection of limited edition objects including artist multiples, jewellery, furniture and stationary, to name a few.

Speaking with Qatar Tribune, Karim Sultan, communications executive of KAC, explained: "The dXb store was started by Art Dubai, the regional art fair, in order to create a platform for the UAE-based designers to showcase their work. It is a part of our Regional Design Pop-Up series." Sultan added, "The dXb store perfectly fits into our scheme of things for the region. The exhibition offers a perfect opportunity for Doha-based designers, as well as members of the general public, to see what's happening in terms of design next door, in the UAE." The KAC Regional Design Pop-Up series was conceived to expose Doha audience to regional design, exploring the numerous and creative routes that designers take in creating work for the public.

The pop-ups are intended to inform and inspire, allowing Doha-based designers and design enthusiasts to find out about and support independent design from the region in an accessible and engaging way.

The recent rise in creativity by young, independent Emirati and UAE-based creative designers has seen a high degree of experimentation and innovation using familiar local and regional culture, locallyproduced materials, and approaches to develop a wide range of objects.
