Kasbah joke tweet gets serious Colly-kid response; Coventry needs its Colly back.

Byline: John Carlon

The Kasbah may be in the midst of its summer refit, but the debate about the club's name rages on.

A wind-up tweet to the nightclub's 13,000 followers - 'Petition to change Kasbah back to Colly' won nearly 500 likes and resparked the debate over the name ofCov's flagship nightclub.

The Kasbah's social media team toldCoventryLivethe response was surprising, but it was a joke to keep Colly-kids keen during the refurb.

The club opened in 1999, and enjoyed a decade at the height of Coventry clubbing powers as the Colosseum.

In 2007 The Colly became Kasbah, but eleven years later, the controversy continues as true Coventrians still have a night out at The Colly.

@seancavigan wants the club to honour the Three Lions - 'call it Gareth Southgate'

@rachelxconvey ignited #longlivethecolly, sticking by the name of old with 'the people of Coventry will always call it the Colly!'

@reubenoconnell went full retro to pre-Colosseum days with 'I prefer Tic Toc'.

The Kasbah team is too busy glamourising its interiors to get the petition together, luckily its easy done for the CoventryLive team, surely the answer is a sure bet?...

Colly or Kasbah

Always on the lookout for a good PR stunt, the Kasbah sparked rumours of its own demise last month.

The flagship club changed its Facebook profile and cover photo to a black background with white writing saying 'It's time to say goodbye 07/07/18'.

Customers of the popular venue quickly picked up on the change and fears were sparked the nightspot was calling time inCoventry.

Kasbah confirms closure - but all is not as it seems

However, the nightclub later confirmed doors would only be closed for a couple of months in order for a refurbishment of the popular venue to take place.

Its Facebook post read: "The rumours are true, we will be closing on Saturday 7th July for a refurbishment -- it's about time we changed a few lights and we may give the toilets a lick of paint while we're at it!"
