Karting ace Hibbard leading the way.

A PRESTATYN youngster is flying the flag for Wales in a UK-wide motorsport championship at the tender age of seven.

Ysgol Clawdd Offa pupil Sebastian Hibbard leads the field in the Bambino Kart Club Championships after finishing in top spot at Wombwell earlier this month.

Following victory in the second of nine meetings, young Sebastian hopes to extend his lead in the next encounter at Three Sisters in Wigan on May 25.

His mother Jo said: "He's going to be a Formula One driver - he says so himself.

"With Sebastian, it's a matter of 'when' and not 'if' he will be competing in Formula One.

"He's a total petrol head. He loves his cars and he loves his racing."

Sebastian, who drives a Tony Kart with a 50cc engine, is the only Welsh youngster in the championships after finishing third in last year's competition.

The Bambino Kart Club was set up in 2009 and features youngsters between six and eight.

Juniors do not actually compete against each other in a lap race but rather on a time trial basis in circuits across the UK.

Jo is arranging track time at the end of April at Three sisters in Wigan to help young drivers prepare.
