HOTEL THE WELCOME
Karon Beach is one of the longest stretches of sand on Phuket. There is a thriving town packed with restaurants, shops, markets, temples and spas. It is a lot less frenzied than nearby Patong, a 10-minute taxi or tuk-tuk ride away. It is also a great spot for exploring some of the outlying islands.
The resort has rooms in the main hotel plus garden villas and apartments dotted among the grounds which are perfect for families. We stayed in a spacious garden villa. It had a beautiful covered terrace area with sun loungers plus a rainforest shower.
Huge buffet breakfasts offer everything you could imagine. Lunch was spent eating poolside. Our favourite restaurant on site was the Argentinian/Brazilian El Gaucho, which had incredible steaks. We also loved the chilled Sand Bar for cocktails.
We were treated like royalty. Staff remembered our names and greeted us like friends. They took the time to talk to us, teach us Thai and tell us places to visit.
Having the choice of four swimming pools and the huge grounds. Even though the inspector resort was full, it never felt like it.
A minor downside is the beach is across a main road. It is not part of the hotel and you have to pay to use sun loungers.
An ideal location for exploring Phuket. Plus there's enough for everyone to do as much, or as little, as they want.
