Karim, Abbas steer PAF to victory in National Ski Championship.

ISLAMABAD -- Olympian, Mohammad Karim and Mohammad Abbas Saturday helped Pakistan Air Force (PAF) to lift the 23rd National Ski Championship Trophy.

The twoday championship in various categories, was organized by the Ski Federation of Pakistan in collaboration with PAF at the snow bound Naltar ski resort of GilgitBaltistan.

As many as nine outfits of provincial ski associations and departments, including PAF, Pakistan Army ,GB Scouts, HEC and Civil Aviation Authority featured in the event.

Although the participation of various ski associations, clubs and departments was less than previous years due to revised winter schedule because of low snow in the area.

PAF's team dominated show, scoring 405 points to bag first position. Army with 269 points finished second, while GB Scouts with 256 points secured third position.

Civil Aviation Authority got 192 points to remain at number four. PAF's Karim, who recently represented the country in Sochi Winter Olympics, won gold in the giant slalom category.

He covered distance in 55.71 seconds, while his team fellow Olympian Mohammad Abbas won silver medal covering the distance in 56.75 seconds.

International ski player, Mohammad Nawaz Junior of GB Scouts remained third to get bronze medal.

Interestingly, in slalom category Karim failed to touch the finish line as per FIS rules and was declared disqualified.

International skier Mohammad Iqbal of Pakistan Army took lead and managed to get individual gold in the slalom category.

In the same category Olympian Abbas managed to get silver and helped PAF to earn required points at the points table.

PAF's Liaqat Ali remained third and got bronze.

According to the official results, PAF won one gold, two silvers and one bronze in both categories i.e. giant slalom and slalom.

Army got one gold in slalom, while GB Scouts got one bronze in giant slalom category.
