Karbala signs cooperation agreement with Russian University to fight desertification.

KARBALA / Aswat al-Iraq - Southwest Iraq's Karbala Province's Council has signed a cooperation agreement with a Russian University, aimed at fighting desertification in the country, Karbala's Media Director said on Monday.

"Karbala Governor, Engineer Amal al-Din Majid al-Hir, has signed a Memo of Understanding (MOU) and an agreement with a Russian University team, who visited the Province within a delegation, representing four Russian universities, to fight desertification, considered the first of its kind," Dr.

Imad Mohammed Hussein told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

He said the MOU "includes an article, calling on the Russian University to fight the desertification phenomena and to limit its expansion, especially that the University possesses a broad experience in this regard."

Karbala, the center of the Province carrying the same name, is 108 kms to the south of Baghdad.
