KYW NEWSRADIO AND KYW-3 KICK OFF THE 28TH ANNUAL NEWSTUDIES PROGRAM

PHILADELPHIA, Feb. 2 /PRNewswire/ -- KYW Newsradio and KYW-3 will welcome 230 Delaware Valley high school students to the 28th annual NEWSTUDIES program, beginning Feb. 13 for six consecutive Saturdays at the KYW Studios, 5th and Market streets.
Under the direction of KYW Newsradio and KYW-3 station managers, editors, reporters and anchors, students will learn reporting, newswriting and editing techniques.
On March 6, students will sharpen their interviewing skills in a mock press conference featuring U.S. Rep. Marjorie Margolies Mezvinsky (D-Pa.). As a final project, students will research, write and record a story about their school and/or community. The story will air on KYW Newsradio.
Upon completing NEWSTUDIES '93, 10 distinguished students will receive a $100 bond. One NEWSTUDIES '93 student, who demonstrates outstanding journalistic ability, ambition and talent, will be awarded the $1,000 Richard Monetti Scholarship. Established in 1989, the scholarship is in memory of NEWSTUDIES '86 graduate Rick Monetti, who was killed in the 1988 crash of Pan Am Flight 103 over Lockerbie, Scotland. Monetti graduated from Cherry Hill East High School.
