KVASU has a Young and Dynamic Dean.
On 17th September' 2014, Dr K Vijayakumar joined Kerala Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (KVASU) as Dean, College of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (C.V.Sc & A.S), Pookode. He is one of the youngest Dean's in the history of Indian Veterinary Education to have attained the coveted position.
Dr Vijayakumar was born on 13th March'1965 and after schooling, graduated (1988) from Veterinary College, Thrissur as Junior Assistant Professor and after two years of service post graduated in Preventive Medicine (1992) and PhD (1999). He was associated with Kerala Agricultural University and worked as Assistant Professor, Associate Professor and later resumed as Professor in 2010. In 2012, he joined the Department of Animal Husbandry, Dairy and Fisheries as Joint Commissioner. He is also a post graduate diploma holder in Business Management, International Business and Agricultural Marketing from Pondicherry University.
During his tenure of 27 years, he has been honoured and recognised for his contributions viz ISVM Appreciation Award (2010), Best ISVM Presentation Award (2010 and 2005), Best Research Article Award in Intas Polivet (2002), Malcolm S Adisheshiah Award for best doctorate thesis by TNUVAS (1999), Senior Research Fellowship by Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (1997), Appreciation Award for meritorious achievements from General Council of Kerela Agricultural University (1996 and 1994), Young Scientist Award by Indian Society of Veterinary Medicine (1995), Young Scientist Award by Department of Science and Technology (1994) and Junior Research Fellowship by Indian Council of Agricultural Research (1990).
He is also an active editorial board member of Indian Journal of Veterinary Medicine and has 28 research papers, 42 research presentations to his credit. He has guided 9 research scholars, attended 9 trainings, 8 eight international conferences and many more national conferences.
His experience has a blend of academics and administration at different positions and we hope that the expertise gained from SAU and GOI will be of colossal support to the functionality of KVAFSU.
