KUWAIT - Profile - Deputy PM & Interior Minister Shaikh Mohammed Al Khalid Al Hamad Al Sabah.

Shaikh Mohammed was retained as interior minister in the Feb. 14, 2001 reshuffle. He was first brought into the cabinet in the Oct. 15, 1996 reshuffle. (The previous minister of interior was Shaikh Ali Al Sabah Al Salem Al Sabah, brother of Shaikh Salem Al Sabah).

Deputy PM & State Minister for National Assembly & Cabinet Affairs Mohammed Daifallah Sharar was retained in the new cabinet on Feb. 14, 2001. Sharar, an MP, was first brought in as minister of state for parliamentary affairs on March 22, 1998.

The other ministers:

Oil Minister Adel Subaih succeeded Shaikh Saud Al Nasser Al Sabah on Feb. 14, 2001. Until then Subaih used to be minister of electricity and water (see his profile in OMT).

Electricity & Water, Social Affairs & Labour Minister Talal Mubarak Al Ayyar: Ayyar is a newcomer.

The Finance, Planning & State for Administrative Affairs Minister is Yusef Hamad Al Ibrahim. A leading liberal activist who was education minister in the previous cabinet, Ibrahim is one of Shaikh Sabah Al Ahmad's new allies retained in the cabinet on Feb. 14, 2001.

Awqaf, Islamic Affairs, Justice Minister Ahmad Yaqoub Baqer, a newcomer, succeeded Ahmad Al Kleib on Feb. 14, 2001.

Minister of Commerce & Industry Saleh Abdel Reda Khorshed, a newcomer, succeeded Abdel Aziz Al Dakhil on Feb. 14, 2001. (Al Dakhil had taken up this portfolio on March 22, 1998. Previously, he used to be minister of state for cabinet affairs).

Public Works & State for Housing Affairs Fahd Al Mai'a is a newcomer who took up these positions on Feb. 14, 2001.

Minister of Health Mohammed Ahmad Al Jarallah was retained in the new cabinet on Feb. 14.

Communication Minister Shaikh Ahmad Al Abdullah Al Ahmad Al Sabah, of the Bani Jabir branch, is another figure retained in the new cabinet.

Education & Higher Education Minister Mussaed Rashid Al Haroon, a newcomer, took up this position on Feb. 14.
