KUMBA STALKS BUSCH GARDENS TAMPA; NEW COASTER PROMISES TO THRILL EVEN THE BRAVEST OF WARRIORS

TAMPA, Fla., April 21 /PRNewswire/ -- A challenging new adventure now awaits all visitors to Busch Gardens Tampa. Opening today at the African-themed park is "Kumba," the largest and fastest roller coaster in the Southeast United States.
Enjoying a white-knuckled adventure today on the coaster's maiden voyage is actor Michael Richards, NBC's wacky character "Kramer" from the hit television series "Seinfeld." Richards is on hand to welcome the public to this spectacular new roller coaster.
Located near the park's Congo section, Kumba, from the African Congo language word meaning "roar", is sure to give even the bravest of riders something to shout about this season, said Joseph Fincher, Busch Gardens executive vice president and general manager.
Designed by Bolliger and Mabillard of Monthey, Switzerland, the coaster reaches speeds in excess of 60 mph on its nearly 4,000 feet of track, towers to a height of 143 feet and features three first-of-a-kind coaster elements: a "diving loop," a "camelback" with a 360-degree spiral and the world's largest vertical loop.
"The Anheuser-Busch Theme Parks boast some of the most innovative and thrilling coasters to be found anywhere," said Ray Ueberroth, president of the American Coaster Enthusiasts (ACE). "And the outstanding features and close attention to detail used to create Kumba raises the standards for all steel coasters in the United States."
"Kumba is exciting to watch as well as to ride," says Mark Rose, project engineer at the park. "At times it appears as if the cars are headed straight for the middle of a hill, when suddenly they rocket back out with a tremendous roar as though they're being launched into the air. This mixture of sight, sound and motion will excite even the most avid adventure seeker."
The unique design of Kumba allows the tame-hearted to enjoy the adventure as well. The coaster features a "cobra roll" loop that wraps around a pedestrian bridge, providing guests with an unparalleled look at the thrill ride.
Kumba is the third roller coaster at the 300-acre family entertainment park, which is home to the Scorpion and the Python, two spiraling steel coasters with 360-degree loops.
In addition to roller coasters and other thrill and water rides, Busch Gardens, an Anheuser-Busch Theme Park, features live entertainment, shops, restaurants and games, and is ranked among the top zoos in the country with more than 3,400 animals in natural habitats.
Other Anheuser-Busch Theme Parks include Busch Gardens in Williamsburg, Va.; Sea World marine life parks in Orlando, Fla., San Diego, Calif., San Antonio, Texas, and Aurora, Ohio; Cypress Gardens in Winter Haven, Fla.; Sesame Place in Langhorne, Pa., near Philadelphia; Adventure Island in Tampa; and Water Country USA in Williamsburg. The 10 Anheuser-Busch Theme Parks employ more than 15,000 people nationwide.
