KUHLMAN ANNOUNCES INTENTION TO ACQUIRE COLEMAN CABLE SYSTEMS

 SAVANNAH, Ga., Oct. 1 /PRNewswire/ -- Kuhlman Corporation (NYSE: KUH) today announced that it has entered into a letter of intent to acquire Coleman Cable Systems, Inc.
 Coleman Cable Systems, currently owned by Code, Hennessy & Simmons Limited Partnership of Chicago and management, is an integrated manufacturer of a broad range of electrical and electronic wire and cable. Coleman Cable Systems is headquartered in North Chicago, Ill. It had sales of approximately $111 million for its fiscal year ended June 30.
 Robert S. Jepson Jr., chairman, president and chief executive officer of Kuhlman Corporation, stated that the contemplated transaction is consistent with Kuhlman's previously announced business strategies. He noted that: "This proposed acquisition should nearly double the annual sales of Kuhlman Corporation and should also add measurably to our profitability. The Coleman Cable Systems companies produce a wide range of products from bare copper and aluminum wire for utilities and OEM applications; to flexible wiring systems for the construction industry; cable for computer systems and data transmission; sound and communication cable; and extension cords, trouble lights, booster cables and other products for the consumer and industrial markets."
 This transaction is subject to the negotiation and execution of a definitive agreement and various approvals.
 Kuhlman Corporation is a holding company involved in the manufacturing of distribution, power and instrument transformers, and spring products.
