KUBOTA PACIFIC INTRODUCES NEW 3D GRAPHICS WORKSTATIONS

CHICAGO, Nov. 9 /PRNewswire/ -- Kubota Pacific Computer Inc. today announced that it has expanded its Kenai(TM) product line with midrange and high-end graphics workstations that deliver both industry-leading price and performance. The Kenai 3600 midrange graphics desktop workstation offers the industry's leading price/performance for desktop workstations; the Kenai 3800 high-end graphics workstation is the fastest workstation in its price range today.
The new products extend Kubota's Kenai graphics workstation family, which also includes the Kenai 3300, Kubota's low-end workstation product for price-conscious customers; the Kenai 3400 desktop graphics workstation; and the Kenai 3500 graphics workstation.
As with past Kenai products, the new generation of workstations is based upon Digital Equipment Corp.'s Alpha microprocessor and workstation technology. Because of Alpha's superior speed, Kenai 3600 and 3800 set the industry's top price/performance benchmark when compared to other graphics workstations in their class. In comparison to other Kubota workstations, Kenai 3600 provides superior floating point performance per dollar ($133/SPECfp vs. $174) and integer performance per dollar ($204/SPECint vs. $262) to Kenai 3400; Kenai 3800 offers better floating point performance per dollar ($196/SPECfp vs. $240) and integer performance per dollar ($300/SPECint vs. $365) over Kenai 3500. (See Attachment A for charts comparing the new Kenai 3600 and 3800 workstations to other competitive products.)
Kenai 3600 Midrange Desktop Graphics Workstation
For customers who seek both price and performance optimized in a single machine, Kenai 3600 is the fastest desktop workstation on the market today. The desktop unit supports a maximum of 512 MB of memory and includes internal slots for two 3.5-inch HH disks and one 3.5-inch HH removable media device. As with the 3400, the 3600 offers up to seven additional external storage drives support through the use of an external SCSI-II controller. For communication and networking needs, the system is equipped with both AUI (thick wire) and 10BaseT (twisted pair) Ethernet connectors; a EIA-232 serial communication (sync/async) port and a printer/console port.
Kenai 3800 High-End Deskside Graphics Workstation
For customers with needs demanding the industry's highest performance, Kenai 3800 is Kubota's premier high-end graphics workstation, offering performance which which makes it the fastest workstation on the market today in the high-end price range. Kenai 3800 suits the needs of technical users who need very fast graphics and CPU power for mechanical CAD, scientific analysis, data reduction/display, medical imaging, scientific modeling, animation and visual simulation. Kenai 3800 was designed for such demanding applications as computational fluid dynamics, molecular modeling and simulation of complex systems.
The deskside system supports a maximum of one gigabyte of memory and includes internal slots for four 3.5-inch HH disks and two 3.5-inch HH removable media devices. The 3800 offers up to seven additional external storage drives support through the use of an external SCSI-II controller. For communication and networking needs, the system is equipped with both AUI (thick wire) and 10BaseT (twisted pair) Ethernet connectors; a EIA-232 serial communication (sync/async) port and a printer/console port.
