KROY INC. CELEBRATES JULY 4TH BY PULLING MANUFACTURING
OUT OF ORIENT TO AGAIN BECOME AN 'ALL AMERICAN' COMPANY
SCOTTSDALE, Ariz., June 29 /PRNewswire/ -- Once upon a time, there was an all-American company that made all its products in the United States. Then, through a series of management changes, the thought was it could do better by going far, far away to the Orient. But alas, it didn't need a looking glass to discover that quality didn't improve, cost didn't improve and sales didn't improve.
So management finally decided, "If we can be price competitive in the U.S. and quality is as good or better, then why not give American workers the work?"
And that's just what it did. But that's not the end of the story. The move out of the Orient reduced production costs by 30 percent, along with significant improvements in product quality.
The company is Kroy Inc., the original manufacturer of labeling and lettering systems. About 20 years ago Kroy introduced the first lettering system designed to replace hand-written or rub-on lettering used on drawings by architects and engineers. Sales zoomed and the "spin n' spell" machines were sold to hundreds of thousands of businesses.
The company recently brought the assembly of its popular DuraType(R) 240 labeling system back to the good old U.S.A. and began putting the pieces together at its manufacturing facility in Osceola, Wis.
The DuraType 240 was originally introduced by Kroy in 1989 as its first keyboarded, portable thermal print system. About the size of a desktop calculator, the 240 prints text on adhesive-backed tape which can be used to label file folders, file drawers, computer disks, video tapes or three-ring binders (using vertical printing) or create a headline; any application where reproducible, legible identification is needed.
Headquartered in Scottsdale, Kroy develops, manufactures and markets a high-quality line of communication products including labeling, lettering, print products, bar code, supplies and signs.
