KROGER SAYS MICHIGAN STRIKE TO NEGATIVELY IMPACT
 SECOND QUARTER RESULTS
CINCINNATI, June 10 /PRNewswire/ -- The Kroger Co. (NYSE: KR) and officials of UFCW Locals 876 and 539 in Detroit announced yesterday (June 9) that they are resuming negotiations to settle a nine-week long work stoppage affecting 70 stores in southeastern Michigan. Kroger said today that the effects of the strike, along with slow economic recovery and intense competition in several key markets, will have a significant negative impact on second quarter results.
The company said it anticipates that both cash flow and earnings per share will fall substantially below last year's second quarter. In 1991's second quarter, Kroger reported cash flow of $236 million and earnings per share of 36 cents before extraordinary charges.
Kroger's second quarter results will be released in mid-July.
