KROGER EXPANDS STORE OPERATING HOURS IN DETROIT

KROGER EXPANDS STORE OPERATING HOURS IN DETROIT
DETROIT, April 27 /PRNewswire/ -- Due to increasing business and

customer requests, Kroger Food Stores in the Detroit metro area will expand their hours of operation by two hours beginning Tuesday, April 28.
The additional hours -- an extra hour in the morning and another in the evening -- will mean that Kroger stores in the Detroit area will now be open from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Saturday. The stores had been operating on an 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. schedule since April 13, when the stores were struck by members of UFCW Locals 876 and 539.
"The strike's disposition of Kroger's business is diminishing with each passing day, and more and more shoppers are indicating they'd like to see expanded hours of operation," said Joel Greenisen, president of Kroger-Michigan. "We now have sufficient numbers of store workers -- more than 2,500 temporary and regular employees -- to accommodate expanded operations," Greenisen added.
Greenisen said Kroger's sales are approaching 40 percent to 50 percent of what would have been expected without a strike.
Kroger's normal Sunday operating hours -- 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. -- remain the same. Greenisen said that as business continues to pick up, an additional expansion in store operating hours is likely.
