KRAFT GENERAL FOODS EUROPE PRESIDENT TO RETIRE

 MUNICH, Germany, April 16 /PRNewswire/ -- John Plackett, president of Kraft General Foods Europe, announced today that he will retire in July.
 Mr. Plackett, 58, was named president of Kraft Europe in 1986 and in 1989 became president of Kraft General Foods Europe, a new company created with the merger of Kraft and General Foods. Through internal growth, the merger with General Foods and subsequent acquisitions Mr. Plackett led a sale increase from U.S. dollars 690 million in 1986 to more than dollars 3 billion in 1992.
 Mr. John Keenan, president of Kraft General Foods International, will assume direct management responsibility for Kraft General Foods Europe business in addition to his overall responsibilities for the Kraft General Foods business in Europe and the Asia/Pacific region.
 Mr. Keenan, who will maintain offices in Rye Brook, N.Y. and Munich, Germany, said Mr. Plackett would continue to play an important role in shaping the company's future development until his retirement this summer.
 Mr. Keenan said: "John Plackett's leadership during a critical stage in our business building in Europe is greatly valued. The challenge now is to ensure we manage and structure our business to be responsive and cost-effective in a dynamic and rapidly changing marketplace."
 Kraft Foods International, headquartered in Rye Brook, N.Y., had overall sales of dollars 8.7 billion in 1992. In Europe, its portfolio of coffee, cheese, confectionery and dry grocery products are marketed and sold through two operating units, Kraft General Foods Europe and Jacobs Suchard, based in Zurich. Kraft General Foods Europe principal brands include: Kraft cheeses, Philadelphia, Miracoli and Miracle Whip. Major brands of Jacobs Suchard include: Jacobs Cafe, Carte Noire, Grand Mere, Milka, Toblerone and Cote d'Or.
