KPMG PEAT MARWICK TO MAKE ANNOUNCEMENT ON WESTERN PENNSYLVANIA'S COMPETITIVENESS IN THE GROWING GLOBAL ECONOMY

 PITTSBURGH, Dec. 2 /PRNewswire/ -- KPMG Peat Marwick and the American Society for Quality Control Pittsburgh ISO 9000 Users Group will make an announcement on what western Pennsylvania businesses are doing to meet ISO 9000 international quality standards on Thursday, Dec. 9, at 10 a.m. at the Marriott at the Pittsburgh airport.
 Tom Tibor, CEEM Information Services director of special projects, will be the keynote speaker. Tibor will be joined by Jim Thompson, Pittsburgh ISO 9000 Users Group president, and Chuck Pascarella, a partner with KPMG Peat Marwick, to discuss what western Pennsylvania businesses are doing to ensure they are competitive in global markets. Two company representatives will also be available to discuss registration: Vince Wigers, ISO 9000 consultant with Jeanette, Pa.-based New Elliott Corporation, which is ISO 9000 registered, and Brian Nelson, vice president of quality assurance with Rockford, Ill.-based John S. Barnes Corporation, which is pursuing registration.
 ISO 9000 standards are quality standards for various manufacturing functions, including design, inspection, testing, process control, purchasing and training. More than 70 countries have already adopted the ISO 9000 standards.
