KODAK WINS FIRST AUSTRALIAN QUALITY PRIZE

ROCHESTER, N.Y., Nov. 16 ~PRNewswire~ -- Eastman Kodak Company (NYSE: EK) today announced that Kodak (Australasia) Pty. Ltd., a wholly owned subsidiary, is the first recipient of the Australian Quality Prize, the country's highest recognition for quality management.
The Australian Quality Prize honors companies with exceptional levels of management performance and business results. The prize is the first to be linked to international levels of competitiveness and involves a total organizational assessment based on criteria and standards similar to the Malcolm Baldrige Award in the United States.
"Success in global markets depends on applying quality principles across the business," said Ronald L. Heidke, Kodak vice president and director, Corporate Quality. "Kodak in Australia has set an example for Kodak and all companies worldwide."
Candidates for the Australian Quality Prize must have been previously recognized nationally for quality performance. Kodak Australasia's commitment to quality achievement was first recognized in 1988 with the Australian Quality Award. In the following year, the company won the category for outstanding product improvement.
President-elect Bill Clinton stressed the significance of the new prize in a recent letter to the Australian Quality Awards Foundation. Clinton wrote, "I join with you in supporting the quality initiative in the business community worldwide."
Kodak (Australasia) Pty. Ltd. markets a complete range of imaging products from traditional films to large-scale digital systems based on optical disks. It manufactures color films and papers and commercial black-and-white products, as well as the associated processing chemicals. The company, headquartered in Melbourne, is Australia's sixth largest Southeast Asian exporter of high technology products.
