KODAK INDEPENDENT DIRECTORS ISSUE STATEMENT

 ROCHESTER, N.Y., May 3 /PRNewswire/ -- The following statement is released at the request of the independent directors of Eastman Kodak Company (NYSE: EK):
 "The independent directors of Eastman Kodak Company believe that the company's performance must be improved significantly. To that end, a committee of independent directors, the Corporate Directions Committee, was formed in January to work closely with board chairman Kay R. Whitmore and outside consultants on the issues of operating efficiency, debt reduction and strategic focus.
 "The board expects management to submit a comprehensive plan for the future of the company including expense and debt reduction and corporate strategic focus between now and September.
 "The independent directors are committed to achieving significantly greater shareholder value in 1993 and beyond. They fully support the current efforts of Mr. Whitmore and senior Kodak management to accomplish this objective."
