 KODAK EXTENDS CANON ALLIANCE IN OFFICE IMAGING;
 SOME PERIPHERAL UNITS WILL BE SOLD
 ROCHESTER, N.Y., July 9 /PRNewswire/ -- Eastman Kodak Company (NYSE: EK) today announced that it has agreed with Canon, Inc. (NASDAQ: CANNY) to extend their informal alliance, announced in 1984, to include joint development and manufacturing projects.
 The agreement will initially focus on office products. Until now, the alliance has primarily concentrated on original-equipment- manufacturer (OEM) supply projects and technical exchange. The intent of the informal alliance is to promote projects to strengthen both companies' product lines and to make more effective use of research, development, and manufacturing resources.
 Separately, Leo J. Thomas, president of the Kodak Imaging Group, said, "The copy business represents significant sales and growth potential and our new 1500 and 2100 copiers represent real product leadership. Our alliance with Canon will work to enlarge the business by providing our customers with even better products and services."
 While reaffirming Kodak's intent to remain in the copier business, Thomas said that 10 other Kodak units or businesses will be divested. Offers have been made on four: a project that is part of the company's government contract business, Datatape, Estek and Videk. Two others, Atex and Desktop Document Imaging, are in the hands of investment bankers.
 "We are still determining how to proceed with the other four," Thomas noted. "This action is in line with our commitment to exit businesses that are not well aligned with the companyUs long term strategy in imaging."
