KNOWLEDGEWARE ANNOUNCES UNIX VERSIONOF ITS APPLICATION DEVELOPMENT WORKBENCH(R)

ATLANTA, Dec. 21 /PRNewswire/ -- KnowledgeWare, Inc. (NASDAQ-NMS: KNOW) today announced plans to rapidly expand into the UNIX market with a UNIX version of its Application Development Workbench(R) (ADW/R/).
This version of the popular ADW integrated CASE product line will offer familiar features and functions and is planned for the following UNIX development platforms: Hewlett-Packard Series 9000/700 (HP-UX); IBM RS/6000 (AIX); Sun SPARC (Solaris); AT&T 3B2 (SVR4); and 80386/486- based PCs running SCO UNIX. Plans call for the UNIX-based Application Development Workbench to support generation of client/server applications to be deployed on target platforms including all of the above systems as well as mainframe computers running MVS.
The UNIX-based version of the Application Development Workbench will be encyclopedia-based, and will comprise Planning, Analysis, Design, Rapid Application Development (RAD), Documentation and Construction Workstations. In porting the Application Development Workbench to the UNIX platforms, KnowledgeWare will leverage its experience in the development of integrated, encyclopedia-based tools that operate in a multi-tasking environment. The resulting products will employ the Motif user interface.
Development activities will be handled by Knowledgeware's UNIX Development Laboratory located in San Mateo, Calif. A controlled rollout of the first components of the UNIX-based ADW product line is planned for June 1993, including a UNIX-based Ada code generator, followed by C and COBOL code generators. General availability will be based on the strict quality criteria which guided KnowledgeWare's highly praised rollout of the Application Development Workbench 2.7 release this year.
"KnowledgeWare has made a commitment to the UNIX marketplace, and we are now positioned to rapidly deploy a UNIX version of our industry- leading I-CASE software," declared Donald Addington, KnowledgeWare president and chief operating officer. "We ported the Application Development Workbench from one operating system to another in 1990, and this migration to UNIX is the next step in supporting the full spectrum of our customers' client/server application development activities."
KnowledgeWare, Inc. is the market leader in providing application development solutions for client/server, mid-range and mainframe environments. KnowledgeWare's Application Development Workbench encyclopedia has become a de facto standard for business applications development, and is currently used by more than 4,000 companies and supported by 70 independent software vendor and consultant products. On Nov. 1, Knowledgeware had shipped more than 100,000 units to 35 countries, and had revenue in excess of $115 million for the fiscal year ended June 30.
