KNOWLEDGEWARE ANNOUNCES THE DEVELOPMENT OF A NEW ADA CODE GENERATOR
ATLANTA, July 9 /PRNewswire/ -- KnowledgeWare, Inc. (NASDAQ-NMS: KNOW) announced today the development of a new Ada code generator, which will produce Ada applications from requirements and design specifications in KnowledgeWare's Application Development Workbench(R).
This new product, developed under a joint agreement with Ada Environment Technologies (AETECH), will meet the federal government standards for POSIX, X-Windows, and the new Ada standard for the 1990s Ada9X. Ada developers will be able to use the Application Development Workbench to plan, analyze, prototype and design applications, which will then be generated in the Ada language. The new Ada code generator is scheduled for release later this year.
According to KnowledgeWare's President and Chief Operating Officer, Donald P. Addington: "This step is one of many KnowledgeWare is taking to be a major supplier of I-CASE products to the federal government. We are committing the necessary resources to build products that will support open systems, Unix technology and Ada development mandated by this market. We believe that these product initiatives, as well as maintaining a high level of support specifically for our government customers, will enable us to achieve leadership in the federal market."
"By using the Application Development Workbench I-CASE environment, application developers can achieve application portability across multiple hardware and software platforms, giving government departments the flexibility they require," said Philip Kiviat, KnowledgeWare's vice president of federal systems operations. "Because the front-end tools are the same tools as those used today to implement information engineering and structured methodologies, government developers will be able to use familiar tools and techniques to design Ada management information systems (MIS) applications."
AETECH, contracted by KnowledgeWare to jointly develop the Ada code generator, was selected by the Ada Joint Program Office (AJPO) to develop and test the standard Ada PC compiler for the 1990s. AETECH will use its new POSIX compiler XAda to develop and test the Ada9X revisions for MIS applications.
Deron Miller, general manager of AETECH, said: "The combination of KnowledgeWare and AETECH provides the federal government all the right components to meet the desirable features of the I-CASE procurement for open systems and Unix development. It will also support the development and maintenance of Ada software applications in accordance with the Ada9X project revisions when they become available."
Founded in 1984, AETECH has been a pioneer in the development of Ada products as well as in research and development for the government. AETECH maintains a corporate business and development headquarters in Carlsbad, Calif., and a federal systems group in Fairmont, W.V.
KnowledgeWare develops, markets and supports I-CASE tools for use by information systems development professionals. Headquartered in Atlanta, KnowledgeWare has offices throughout the United States and exclusive distributors in more than 36 countries.
