Pulsatile tinnitus Tinnitus is a sound you get in your ears that often feels like humming, grinding, buzzing, hissing or whistling.

Another type of the condition is pulsatile tinnitus, where the noise is rhythmical and beats at the same rate as the heart. This is also the sound of your blood circulating. You can check which type you have by feeling your pulse as you listen.

Regular tinnitus is thought to be caused by a disconnect between the sounds the ears hear and the way the brain interprets them, but pulsatile tinnitus is all down to your heartbeat.
