MIAMI, May 19 /PRNewswire/ -- Knight-Ridder, Inc. (NYSE: KRI) today released its monthly statistical report for the four weeks ended May 30, 1993 as follows --
Total company revenue was up 4.6 percent compared with the fifth period a year ago. Year-to-date, total company revenue is 4.9 percent ahead of last year.
 Newspapers
total newspaper advertising revenue was up 1.1 percent in the fifth period corresponding to May of last year. Total full-run ROP advertising linage was down 0.2 percent.
We continued to experience growth in classified with a 6.5 percent improvement in classified advertising revenue and a 2.9 percent gain in full-run ROP classified linage.
Retail advertising revenue was up 0.7 percent on a 0.9 percent drop in full-run ROP retail linage.
General or national advertising revenue dropped 11.9 percent for the month on a 17.0 percent decrease in full-run ROP general linage. Much of this was attributable to a drop in airline advertising vs. the same period a year ago.
 Business Information Services
BIS revenue was up 15.7 percent. We continued to experience good MoneyCenter sales, particularly in Europe and Asia. Dialog revenue slowed somewhat, but Data-Star performed above our expectations.
