 (A) -- For purposes of comparability, Business Information Services Revenue for 1991 has been restated to reflect a change in reporting certain revenues which previously were recorded net of related royalties. These revenues will now be recorded gross, with a corresponding increase to royalty expense. The restatement has no impact on operating profit.
 (B) -- On Nov. 27, 1989, the Detroit News and the Detroit Free Press began operations under a Joint Operating Agreement as the Detroit Newspaper Agency (DNA). Revenue, linage and circulation for 1992 and 1991 include 50 percent of the DNA.
 (C) -- Full Run ROP linage of the joint operating agency between the Seattle Times and the Seattle Post Intelligencer was 216 for the period (down 10.8 percent from the prior year) and 1,325 for the year-to-date (Down 1.8 percent from the prior year.) Knight-Ridder owns 49.5 percent of the voting stock and 65 percent of the non-voting common stock of the Seattle Times. None of the linage is included in the Advertising Linage section.
 (D) -- Measured by individual Knight-Ridder newspapers. Where necessary, certain previously reported linage has been restated to be consistent with measurement guidelines currently in use.
