MIAMI, Dec. 7 /PRNewswire/ -- Knight-Ridder, Inc. (NYSE: KRI), today announced that it has reached an agreement in principle to acquire Technimetrics, Inc., a diversified information service company that specializes in the creation of global financial databases. Terms were not announced. The sale is scheduled to take place in early January.
Technimetrics research revolves around four core databases -- Institutional Investors, Stockbrokers, Business Decision-Makers, and Corporate Ownership Positions. These proprietary databases cross- reference the names of key decision-makers at the world's leading business and service groups.
These databases are used by specific business end users to help them with their communication and marketing efforts. "Technimetrics is an ideal fit with many of the products Knight- Ridder provides through its Business Information Services Division," said BIS President David K. Ray. "We have many customers in common, and this additional content will allow Knight-Ridder to better meet their information needs, as well as attract new business."
Technimetrics was founded in 1968 by James R. Uffelman, who will serve as president. Technimetrics has over 90 employees with New York as its global headquarters. In addition, they have offices in London, Houston, and Pasadena, Calif., with representation in Amsterdam and Sydney.
"The Technimetrics management team will be a strong addition to our BIS group," Ray said.
Jim Batten, chairman and chief executive officer of Knight-Ridder, said, "We are very pleased that Technimetrics will become part of Knight- Ridder. We are continuing to build the global reach of our company, both in terms of geography and product."
"I am delighted to have found a partner who shares our vision and desire in building a global business information enterprise," said Uffelman.
