KNIGHT RIDDER'S NEWSFEED TO BE OFFERED OVER QUOTRON F/X TRADER(SM) SYSTEM

KNIGHT RIDDER'S NEWSFEED TO BE OFFERED OVER
 QUOTRON F/X TRADER(SM) SYSTEM
NEW YORK, Oct. 5 /PRNewswire/ -- Knight-Ridder Financial, Inc. and Quotron Systems, Inc. today announced that Knight-Ridder's global newsfeed will soon be available over Quotron F/X Trader, a sophisticated computerized dealing system for foreign exchange traders. The agreement to offer the newsfeed extends an existing alliance between the two companies. Knight-Ridder already provides indicative foreign exchange rates to F/X Trader users.
Paul Cooper, managing director of Knight-Ridder Financial/Americas, said of the relationship between Quotron and Knight-Ridder, "We view this alliance as integral to our strategy, which is to make our information available globally over a variety of delivery systems to meet the diverse needs of our clients. With F/X Trader, Quotron has rapidly built a phenomenal presence in the international marketplace."
Michael Togher, vice president of Quotron's Foreign Exchange Business, added, "For our customers worldwide, gaining access to Knight- Ridder news will add another dimension to their trading screens and will give them a competitive edge. We are pleased to be able to offer them this expanded set of services."
As a result of the new agreement, F/X Trader subscribers will be able to display Knight-Ridder news headlines continuously on their screens while dealing with counterparties at the same time. They will be able to set audio alerts for headlines of particular interest, as identified by key words or categories. And they will be able to retrieve the full text of news stories at the click of a button. The newsfeed will be available over F/X Trader starting in early 1993.
Quotron F/X Trader was designed with the help of foreign exchange traders from the world's largest money-center banks. Using an IBM(R) PS/2(R) Model 70 workstation running under the OS/2 operating system and Presentation Manager software, traders can choose either a fixed-format mode for rapid dealing or a free-form (conversational) mode for flexible messaging and inquiries. Transactions can be executed in either mode. F/X Trader allows traders to deal with up to six counterparties simultaneously. Easily recognizable graphic symbols indicate the exact status of each conversation, and different colors clearly distinguish outgoing from incoming calls to help manage multiple conversations.
