KMC set to launch low cost public housing projects.
KARACHI -- Karachi Metropolitan Corporation will promote the public housing sector as a bid to encourage the socio economic development at local level.
The first phase of this scheme envisaged the construction of 3 and 4 room well standard apartments on a 2700 square yards piece of land in the KDA Scheme-1 to be offered to citizens under installment plan.
This was decided in the Executive Board meeting of public housing presided over by its Chairman/KMC Administrator Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui, said a statement on Monday.
Addressing the meeting Chairman Board Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui said defunct KDA worked a lot in this sector and still we need to continue it which through providing better low cost housing facility to citizens and supporting social economic development while ensuring handsome amount for KMC.
He also directed the public housing department to put up suggestions for new public housing schemes under coordination with the Sindh Building Control Authority, Master Plan and other departments which should be included in the agenda for the next board meeting.
The Administrator also instructed to finalize the scheme of public housing project after completing all formal requirements to be initiated on the KMC plot in KDA Scheme-1 so that the launch of public housing scheme is taken in hand.
It was also decided to open separate account for each scheme so that they could finish on time and till their allocations was used only for the project till its completion.
The meeting also suggested such projects in Liaquatabad and Federal B. Area whereas the director public housing scheme was directed to take the measures for recovery of rent from Civic Centre in Korangi.
The meeting also discussed the technical, financial, legal and other aspects of the public housing schemes to be made on the KDA Scheme-1 plot No.ST-2, measuring 2414 square yards, Scheme No.16 measuring 5722 square yards and plot No. ST-8 block -3 and Scheme No.6 measuring 8840 square yards.
This may be noted that in order to enhance revenue resources of KDA Wing of KMC and to promote the public housing scheme, the Administrator had setup Executive Board to launch new public housing schemes in the city.
The Board comprising members including Financial Advisor, D.G Technical Services, Sr. Legal Advisor, Director Land (KDA-1, KMC), Director Marketing BHS KDA Wing, representative of Commissioner Karachi, Sindh Building Control Authority and Master Plan Department.
The meeting was attended by Vice Chairman Metropolitan Commissioner Samiuddin Siddiqui and other members of the Board.
