 KMART PLANS EXPANSION INTO ALASKA
 TROY, Mich., April 10 /PRNewswire/ -- Kmart Corporation (NYSE: KM)


announced today it plans to expand into Alaska in 1993 with the opening of two state-of-the-art Kmart stores.
 The first store will be located at the corner of Washington and Airport Way in Fairbanks and the second store will be located at the southeast corner of Seward and Diamond in Anchorage.
 "The stores represent the company's commitment to exciting new product and presentation approaches in tune with the changing tastes of American families," said Paul Hueber, vice president of Kmart's West/Central Region.
 Incorporating Kmart's innovative new look, each store will be 130,000 square feet and will sport colorful displays, wide aisles, bright lighting and bold merchandise presentation as well as comprehensive Auto Service Centers.
 The Alaskan Kmart stores are part of a nationwide renewal program which includes the creation of new stores, relocations, enlargements and refurbishments that will run through 1995. Kmart allocated $3 billion for the expansion. By 1995, Kmart will be a chain of more than 2,500 Kmart stores averaging 85,000 square feet.
 The two stores will employ more than 400 people.
 Kmart Corporation also is the parent company for Pay Less Drug Stores, Builders Square, Waldenbooks, PACE Membership Warehouse Clubs, OfficeMax and The Sports Authority. Combined with its 2,394 Kmart stores, the retail giant serves the United States, Puerto Rico and Canada with more than 4,000 retail outlets in all.
