KMART LAUNCHES TORNADO RELIEF EFFORTS

 TROY, Mich., Aug. 10 /PRNewswire/ -- Kmart Corporation (NYSE: KM) today announced a multi-step relief effort to benefit tornado victims in Colonial Heights and Petersburg, Va. The company will contribute $5,000 between The Salvation Army and The American Red Cross.
 Three Virginia-area Kmart stores have already provided toiletries, socks, underwear, canned goods, coolers, blankets, telephones and other needed relief supplies since a tornado ripped through the communities on Friday, Aug. 6.
 Repairs needed as a result of tornado damage have been made to the Colonial Heights Kmart store at 116 Southgate Square and the store reopened to customers today.
 During business hours, the Kmart store in Colonial Heights will serve as a collection point for money and relief supplies needed by The Red Cross and Salvation Army. People wishing to donate new work clothes, work gloves, cleaning supplies and/or personal hygiene items can bring them to the Good News Committee collection table in front of the store.
 Kmart stores in nearby Chester and Petersburg, Va., which were not damaged by the tornado have launched fund-raising drives to benefit the relief efforts. At the Chester Kmart, customers can purchase Good News Candy Bars with all proceeds benefiting The Red Cross.
