KMART DONATES BUILDING FOR NEW YMCA ACTIVITY CENTER

SEBRING, Fla., April 7 /PRNewswire/ -- Kmart Corporation (NYSE: KM) and the Highlands County Family YMCA today announced that Kmart is donating its previously occupied location at 928 S.E. Lakeview Drive to the YMCA to be used as a family activity center.
Kmart occupied the property on S.E. Lakeview Drive from 1978 until February, 1992, when a new Kmart store was built at 901 US 27 North in Sebring.
The new YMCA Family Activity Center will open for limited activity in mid-May. It will serve adults and children in Sebring, Lake Placid and Avon Park. The center will have facilities for basketball, gymnastics and a full range of community services.
"The Kmart store on S.E. Lakeview Drive was an important part of the community for nearly 15 years," said Harry Miller, Kmart store manager. "It gives us great pleasure to serve Sebring from our new location and make this donation which will benefit local children and families for many years to come."
"Kmart Corporation has shown by their donation that they are an extremely valuable partner in our community," said Doris Gentry, Highlands County YMCA board chairperson. "Their donation is an investment in the future of all Highlands County."
"The location and the building are perfect for our needs both now and in the future," added Jim McCollum, Sebring YMCA chairperson. "Kmart deserves the thanks of all of us."
The Highlands County YMCA was incorporated in 1988. It currently has facilities in Avon Park and Lake Placid. The programs in the Sebring area had been limited due to the lack of a facility. Despite this, the group served more than 4,000 participants last year.
Kmart operates nearly 4,000 retail outlets in all 50 states in the United States, and Puerto Rico, Canada, the Czech Republic and Slovakia. Kmart, currently operating 2,409 Kmart stores, is also the parent company for PACE Membership Warehouse, Builders Square, PayLess Drug Stores, Waldenbooks, The Sports Authority, OfficeMax and Borders.
