KMART CORPORATION REPORTS JUNE SALES INCREASE

 TROY, Mich., July 8, 1993 /PRNewswire/ -- Kmart Corporation
(NYSE: KM) today reported a sales increase of 11.5% for June 1993
over sales during the same period of last year. Consolidated sales
for the five-week period ended June 30, 1993 amounted to
$3,929,674,000, versus sales of $3,524,372,000 for the five weeks
 ended July 1, 1992.
Sales for the 22 weeks ended June 30, 1993 were $16,196,269,000, up
10.1% from the $14,715,600,000 for the first 22 weeks of 1992.
"Sales in June in the U.S. Kmart division strengthened
considerably," said Joseph E. Antonini, Kmart chairman of the board
and chief executive officer. "We experienced excellent sales gains
in most hardline merchandise categories, both in basic consumable
items and in seasonal merchandise lines. After disappointing
apparel sales earlier in the season, our apparel business
strengthened in the latter part of June. This reflected warmer
temperatures in important East and Midwest markets and the start of
our clearance program for spring and summer merchandise."
"Of the specialty retail businesses, sales in June continued to be
very strong at OfficeMax and Borders," said Antonini. "In addition,
sales at The Sports Authority ran considerably ahead of earlier-in-
 the-year trends."
Kmart Corporation serves America with over 4,000 retail outlets in
all 50 states in the United States and in Puerto Rico, Canada, the
Czech Republic and Slovakia. Kmart, currently operating 2,417 Kmart
stores, is also the parent company for PACE Membership Warehouse,
Builders Square, PayLess Drug Stores, Waldenbooks, The Sports
 Authority, OfficeMax and Borders.

Midwest Stock Exchanges. Its trading symbol is KM.
