KMART CORPORATION REPORTS JULY SALES INCREASE
TROY, Mich., Aug. 6 /PRNewswire/ -- Kmart Corporation (NYSE: KM)

today reported a sales increase of 13.3 percent for July 1992 over sales during the same period of last year. Consolidated sales for the four- week period ended July 29, 1992, amounted to $2,691,408,000, vs. sales of $2,375,618,000 for the four weeks ended July 31, 1991.
Sales for the 26 weeks ended July 29, 1992, were $17,407,189,000, up 8.5 percent from the $16,047,003,000 for the first 26 weeks of 1991.
Kmart Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer Joseph E. Antonini said, "Sales were very strong throughout July, resulting in a 7.5-percent comparable store sales increase, our best monthly gain of the year to date. After unseasonably cool weather in both May and June, warmer temperatures through much of the country contributed to an excellent sell-thru of seasonal merchandise, especially apparel but also electric fans and air conditioners, during the month. In addition, customer response to our early fall apparel lines was encouraging, which bodes well for sales in the months ahead. Our specialty store businesses continue to achieve strong comparable store sales gains."
Kmart Corporation serves America with over 4,000 retail outlets in all 50 states in the United States and in Puerto Rico and Canada. Kmart, currently operating 2,383 Kmart stores, is also the parent company for PACE Membership Warehouse, Builders Square, PayLess Drug Stores, Waldenbooks, The Sports Authority and OfficeMax.
Kmart Corporation's stock is listed on the New York, Pacific and Midwest stock exchanges. Its trading symbol is KM.
