KMART CORPORATION ANNOUNCES EXECUTIVE MOVES

 TROY, Mich., Oct. 6 /PRNewswire/ -- Kmart Corporation (NYSE: KM) today announced a series of executive moves in its U.S. Kmart and International divisions and the creation of a distinct Super Kmart Center division, effective Oct. 25, 1993.
 Joseph R. Thomas will become executive vice president - U.S. Kmart Stores, moving from his previous position as executive vice president - international and administration. Richard S. Miller will become executive vice president - Super Kmart Centers, moving from his previous position as executive vice president - U.S. Kmart Stores. Thomas W. Watkins, senior vice president -- international operations, will assume full responsibility for Kmart's international division. Each of the officers will report directly to Joseph E. Antonini, Kmart chairman, president and chief executive officer.
 "These executive moves will complete the integration of the U.S. Kmart division by bringing the key functions of distribution, transportation, import buying, real estate, construction, human resources and merchandising into one operating group reporting to Joe Thomas," said Antonini.
 "Our Super Kmart Centers continue to perform very well," said Antonini. "By creating a separate division reporting to Dick Miller, we will sharpen our focus on the growth and development of the popular Super Kmart Centers while maintaining the strength of the U.S. Kmart division," added Antonini.
 Kmart will have 17 Super Kmart Centers at year-end 1993 with 60-75 more planned in 1994.
 As senior vice president - international operations, Watkins will oversee Kmart operations in Canada, Mexico, Singapore, the Czech Republic, Slovakia and assume full responsibility for the growth of Kmart's international division.
 Kmart Corporation employs 356,000 associates in more than 4,000 retail outlets in all 50 United States, Canada, the U.S. Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico, the Czech Republic and Slovakia. Kmart, currently operating 2,430 Kmart stores, also is the parent company of PACE Membership Warehouse, Builders Square, OfficeMax, The Sports Authority, PayLess Drug Stores, Waldenbooks and Borders.
