KMART ANNOUNCES NEW EXECUTIVE PROMOTION TROY, Mich., Nov. 1 /PRNewswire/ -- Kmart Corporation (NYSE: KM)
today announced the promotion of Charles R. Cumello, 46, to president and chief executive officer of Waldenbooks.
Since March 1991, Cumello has been president and chief operating officer at Waldenbooks. He joined Waldenbooks in July 1980 as vice president and controller and served in various executive positions including executive vice president, general manager, Reader's Market, before being promoted to president of that division in May 1990. Prior to joining Waldenbooks, Cumello served in various capacities in several divisions of Melville Corporation. George R. Mrkonic, Kmart's executive vice president, specialty retailing, in discussing the promotion, stated, "Waldenbooks' outstanding performance since Charlie's promotion makes this an obvious appointment." Waldenbooks is the nation's largest bookstore chain with over 1,300 stores in all 50 United States. Kmart Corporation serves American with over 4,000 retail outlets in all 50 states and in Puerto Rico and Canada.
