KLM airlines tops int'l passenger satisfaction poll.
TOKYO, Feb. 9 Kyodo KLM Royal Dutch Airlines topped the list of
satisfaction among Japanese travelers in a survey released Tuesday by
the publisher of a Japanese travel magazine. Diamond-Big Co., the
Tokyo-based publisher of Chikyu No Arukikata Magazine (World walkers),
polled 2,127 international travelers last October and November on their
impressions of 57 airlines. The travelers -- who made an average of
14.2 overseas trips per person -- were asked about each airline's
level of service, quality of in-flight meals, safety reliability,
comfort level, and convenience. The three major Japanese airlines -- All
Nippon Airways, Japan Airlines and Japan Air System -- ranked 10th,
14th and 19th, respectively, in the poll. The survey respondents
specifically praised KLM for the convenience of its Amsterdam hub in
flights to European destinations and for its frequent-flier program.
The program entitles customers to free airline tickets based on the
number of miles the passenger has flown with the airline. Swiss Air and
Singapore Airlines were ranked second and third, with Lufthansa German
Airlines and Australia's Qantas Airways rounding out the top five.
The magazine said the pollees were unhappy with high air fares charged
by the Japanese airlines.
