KING BEARING OPENS ITS FIRST CHICAGOLAND BRANCH; "MAKIN' IT WORK IN CHICAGO"

CHICAGO, July 6 /PRNewswire/ -- King Bearing, Inc., part of America's leading independent distributor of plant maintenance and repair products, today opened its first Chicago-area branch at 281 So. Frontage Rd., near the intersection of I-55 and Illinois 83, in Burr Ridge.
The 17,500-square-foot location includes a fully stocked inventory of replacement bearings, power transmission components and related specialty items, as well as a convenient retail display area offering tools, caulks, sealants and other everyday maintenance supplies.
In September, a second branch is scheduled to open at 1500 E. Higgins Rd., near I-90 and Illinois 83, in Elk Grove Village. In all, up to six Chicago-area branches are planned for the next two years. "We are extremely happy to be able to serve customers in America's largest industrial market," said President and Chief Operating Officer John C. Robinson. "Our philosophy is to help make area plants more efficient and competitive by going the extra mile to keep them running."
As a reflection of this philosophy, King has adopted the slogan "Makin' It Work in Chicago" for its business here. "Keeping companies competitive and Chicagoans productively employed is what it's all about," explained Robinson. "Bearings, motors, belting and similar components are what we sell. But our real product is the productive 'uptime' of the factories that use them."
Aside from fully stocked inventories and quick delivery, King services will include applied-knowledge technical assistance for customers; 24-hour emergency availability; in-plant stocking of commonly needed parts; and sophisticated computerized searching for rare and unusual components.
King's Chicago staff will be headed by Henry R. Bourassa, director of operations. He will be supported by Dave A. Cummins, territory sales manager, Mark Burchett, district operations manager, and Jay W. Ohlinger and Chris W. Duval, account representatives.
King Bearing -- with branches in California, Arizona, Nevada and New Mexico -- is a wholly owned subsidiary of Bearings, Inc. (NYSE: BER). Headquartered in Cleveland and publicly traded on the NYSE (BER), Bearings, Inc. will celebrate its 70th anniversary in 1993. Bearings, Inc. also operates as Dixie Bearings and Bruening Bearings. The company's sales in 1992 exceeded $817 million. The 3,900 BI employees serve their customers through 324 branch locations, seven regional distribution centers and 18 shop locations in 37 states.
Nationwide, the company's branches stock more than 500,000 individual parts and components made by more than 500 manufacturers.
